He recently responded to a report of a loose bull roaming near the city. "When I arrived, I observed a brahma bull standing in the roadway. This bull was gray in color with some black markings and a horn protruding from each side of its head." Jensen radioed the Yellowstone County sheriff's office that he had actually found the culprit. Then he turned on the public address system in the patrol car "and asked the bull to go back into its own pasture at which time the bull looked at me, then proceeded over to a fivestrand barb-wire fence and stepped across it into his own pasture." Murder trial in Malta MALTA (AP) Three California men accused of a triple murder at Loring last November will have to be tried in Phillips County, District Judge Leonard Langen ruled today.

Langen turned down the men's motion to move their trials to another county, saying they have not shown that they can't get a fair trial in Malta, the county seat. The three defendants, Ricky Worden, Criss Case and Austin Metcalf, had based their claim of prejudice chiefly on a public opinion poll designed by Joe Callaghan, the associate dean of Northern Montana College, and conducted by a private investigator. The judge ruled that the poll was flawed in several ways and that, without it, there was not enough evidence to show widespread prejudice against the defendants. The trio are charged with kidnaping, robbing and murdering Raymond Scheffelmaer, 54, his 49-year-old wife, Dorothy, and Doris Watkins, 43, last Nov. 8.

The bodies, all bound, were found in a bedroom of the Scheffelmaers' living quarters at the bar they operated in the tiny community of Loring, 36 miles north of Malta. A fourth man originally charged in the case, Ron Worden, has agreed to testify for the prosecution in a plea-bargaining arrangement. Plentywood police fired PLENTYWOOD (AP) Mayor Bob Marlenee disclosed Monday that he has fired one city policeman and has suspended the town's police chief and another officer. The actions were the result of a continuing investigation conducted by the state attorney general's office, Marlenee said, but the mayor refused to say what the investigation involves. He said the suspensions of Police Chief Jim Angermeier and officer Charles Wood would be in effect pending the outcome of further disciplinary proceedings.

Plentywood, population 2,500, had only one policeman remaining on duty Monday. The mayor said the Sheridan County sheriff's office and the U.S. Border Patrol had agreed to help keep order. Marlenee said the final report on the investigation Emil G.
