Consultaiionesen Eepanol. Oouaiilleln Italiauo. NOTICE. The lost laau of the 1 Karan hurt contained aa i tended review of the inoepUoe and prugroaa of tha Independent Order of Odd Fellow on the American continent and In Montana This waa done In aaliot-ptlion of ths aiityeeventh American anai-veraary of Odd Fellowship which occurred yesterday and which wa duly Celebrated la every of the thousand, wf chic, towns, aud villages on th Americas continent that aupport flouriahlng lodge of this benevolent order. The Helena lodge Montana No.

Excelsior No. 5 aud Jlocky Mountain Encampment No. 1 were not unmindful of ths day. Last evening tbeir hall preaent-ed a gala appearance. Members of the order to th number of about 75 aooom-panled by tbeir lady friends auembled there and they in their glittering regalia aad tbe ladies in gay dreasea formed a brilliant picture.

The exercise at the hall were abort. Chaplain Richard Lockey Invoked a blessing; Maseena Bullard, noble grand, and Judge Sterling, vice grand, then went through that portion of tbe ritual ael apart for anniversary occasion, briefly giving tbe history of th order in America and ite benevolent and beneficent principle. A thanksgiving hymn and prayer followed and then Mr. Bullard announced a banquet at the Merchant, hotel and declared the meeting adjourned to meet In a few minutes around the fcilal board. TDB DANqUKT.

At tbe banquet ball In the Merchant, hold 113 guest, nt down to a splendid spread of seven but owing to the -bewitching presence of many ladles of quality and temperate proclivities, no wine was served. After the various viands had been discussed, toast master Br. Irltae Stone took tbe floor and proposed for consideration the history of Odd Fellowship by E. D. Edgcrton, Esq.

He aald: Ladiea and gentlemen, think there has been a mistake; we had better had the talking before eating. Bro. Bullard may be responsible for this for fear there would be no one to do the talking. Sixty-seven years years ago Odd Fellowship was inaugurated in Baltimore. Now we have over a half a million of membership, so there is not a city or a village in tbe country to-day which is not familiar to the order.

I believe tno growth of the order ia a part of tbe development of the country. Everything is now done by united efforts. What a change. We see that capital ia combining in a centralizing direction. Societies are formed for a variety of purposes.

Combination secure, grand results throughout the land. Even school boys strike led by a bov of the mature years of ten. (Laughter.) This all means combined efforts, whether It be capital or labor. We are now confronted by capital and labor. We are now confronted by a struggle greater than that of tho mythological gods, a struggle between capital and labor, a question that Congress cannot solve.

Applauded. But our province is to lead men in the right. We do nut aek men to be saints nor allow them to ha devils. Our object is to alleviate the material want, of oar brothers. It Is true we live In a cold, cruel world.

It is ia to be lamented in tbla advanced age that we should bow down to success in the acquirement of wealth. Applauded. When disease has robbed man of health you see tbe good work of our grand order. Wben man is laid low by disease, then man appreciates the aid of a brother. Then we feci the beneficent effects of this order.

If disease shall ter minate fatally, then we feel the full benefits of this beneficent organization. The speaker then paid tribute to the Order of Rebckah, organized by Schuyler Colfax in 1807. Mr. Edgertons remarks were loudly applauded. After another choice selection by the band the degree of friendship waa responded to by Air.

Thlome In a strain befitting the occasion. More Music. Then the toast the degree of brotherly love, response by Richard Lockey. Mr. president, ladies aid gentlemen, the modesty of Odd Fellows is proverbial.

Laughter. Fearing my ideas may be scattered to-night I have placed them on paper, renewed laughter without regard to financial condition or religious proclivi ties every brother in distress la succored Applauded. Our order is founded on the universal brotherhood. It thus presents a broad platform of benefaction. We are instructed by the story of the Good Samaritan.

The performance of tbe obligation of the order makes us better citizens and better men. Applause.J The encampment, composing the Patriarchs, the Golden Rule and the Royal Purple degree, by Frank Sterling I see ray assignment covers the entire encampment. There seems to be a warhorse in this scheme. Renewed laughter. It has been so long since my attention has been called to the lessons of these degress that I hardly know where to commence I will therefore simply call your attention to a few of tbe lessons laid down in these degrees.

Each baa its lesson of a harmonious relation of social records. The provisions of the Golden Rule are for the future. Once entered on this terrestrial life all is trouble from youth to old age. Loud laughter. Our widows aad orphans Stone said he had hoped to respoad, but the brethren had learned he didnt believe in them, ao Brother Silverman had been selected.

Laughter. Odd Fellowship Responded to by Bro. Bullard. Mr. Chairman On occasions like this I am like the small boy at the circus.

Messrs. OBrien Son will testify to the promptness of the brethren in getllng to Btauudi and loyul Dctnocrut atul has Always beeu a strong factor In bia parly; he bitfearnod tbla oIIdal plum ly long years of unrequited party service.
