The following concerning tbe Maginnis countrv is taken from the Glendive Timm of March 23d Two young men, Messrs. Bragg and Main, from the Maginnis district, were in town They report the mines amazingly rich, and there ia every prospect of a tremendous rush to that poiut this sea son. The last big strike is a thirteen foot vein of silver quartz. The mines are mostly quartz, Which requires no water, but that the district is full of placer diggings, which can only be worked at some expense, because of the scarcity of water, but that the gold is there and will come out ia time even if artesiuu wells have to be sunk, Muidenville, tbe mining town or camp, situated four (eight by road) miles from tbe fort, and lots are selling for $200 each They expressed some sueprise that no expedition had started from here, as they had read of tbe proposed route in tbe Times, which bad found its way to Msideavilie. They stated that tbe camp was daily expect ing tbe appearance of the Glendivc expedi tion.

In regard to the route they traveled they suid lliut they had a hard time of it, and that heading for Peiige Bottom aa they were, the country was hardly passable, even on horseback, and that other tban good prairie men would not be aide to make it. They slated tliut a road to Coulson was fully as bad, if not worse, as that would bring it in tbe vicinity of tbe Snowy Mountains, which was a broken country cqua) to the Bud Lands, through which road could only he made at great expense and labor, and this circuitous and difficult route would deeufed impracticable if an other struigbtor and smoother one was established, even if twice its lengtb. Add to this the statement of Gen. Merrill, wlio says that the trail from here is a rolling prairie, and that In but few, if any, places will difS culty be experienced in establishing a road. All that is necessary is to build mounds, and that in one month the trail will be distinct enough for the average tenderfoot." Huuey saved is easily earned.

With the disappearance' of the buow in Ten-Mile district, the work of development on the leading mines of the camp is being carried forward with renewed vigor. The main double track tunnel for opening tbe Lee Mountain lode is progressing at the rate of about 100 feet per month. New buildings arc being constructed preliminary to tbe erection of extensive reduction works.

On tbe South Pacific mine a tunnel ia being driven for the purpose of drainage and development. This tunnel will soon connect with the main shaft, in which there is large body of ore exposed, carrying splendid looking galena, which assays high in silver. shaft has been sunk on the A. W. Alley during the winter, showiug a great improvement in the quality of the ore as depth is reached.

Several other mines have been developed more or less during the winter, with a general improvement in all. In a short time there will be a demand for a large force of miners in the camp. It wont do for tbe Independent to insinuate that its candidates were not fairly and honorably beaten. Herald. Tbe fact as stated in the Independent that Messrs.

Vawter and Hamilton, candidates for Aldermen in the second and fifth wards, chose to represent their interests personally at the polls, while Messrs. Zimmerman and Wentworth did not choose to do so, is certainly no imputation upon the gentlemen who manifested the greatcar zeal and activity. The facts are as stated in the Independent of yesterday, but Messrs. Vawter and Hamilton only pursued tbe same course as was pursued by Messrs. Jewett, Blackburn, Morris, and other candidates for Alderman, and we do not conceive that aiiy of these gentlemen did themselves any discredit.
