Tlie citizens of Helena will vote suitieient money to build a railroad or portage around the falls of which there arc twenty, from tea to twenty feet high to transfer freight and passengers from Benton.

The boat will be shipped to this tall, and will be put together and running on tlie 1st of May. It is considered a very profitable investment. Bridgcvillc is located at the junction of three rivers the Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin which form the Alissouri. It has been found necessary, on account of the recklessness of the prisoners confined in tho Aides City jail to post notices in the jail warning the prisoners that there is a severe penalty in the statute for destroying jail furniture or breaking out of jail. They were not missed until the following morning, when a diligcut search failed to find any, trace of them.

Pierces Hume across Clore street, carrying the water into his reservoir, is no obstruction whatever to travel, as alleged in tin; Herald, hut is well bridged over and the road at that point is as good as at any oilier. Four eases of small-pox are reported in Alissoula county near Stevensville; Ferd Kennctl, cashier of Hie Alissoula National Bank, lias been taken down with varioloid; aud a prisoner iu the jail at Missoula is believed to be taking the disease. The Telephone Exchange at this place has recently placed instruments in Green-hood, Bolirn A Co.s, llolter Alorris Bros. Kcslcrs Saloon, (aud also in tho brewery), Davis Tatems foundry, Clarke, Conrad A Curtin's, and Ike Greeuhood's residence. Thxe are now 28 instruments connected with the CAChenge.

A revised list of subscribers will shortly be pubibhed. It is expected that the telephone line to Butte will-lie lu operatiou-within two. weeks. Hereafter the use of the telephone lines will be restricted to parties having instruments Sunday night two fellows, who were a little too much euthuseij by beer, had a bloody fight in the Gregory saloon, on Alain street. One of them got badly ham mered up and the other lost a good portion of his under lip, his opponent having taken a good large bite out of it.

Drs. Cole and Brown fixed him up as well as possible, and he iias evidently left town. We are glad to learn that the pistol wound received by P. II.

AIcGuire at his railroad camp this side of Alullun tunnel Saturday night, is not of a dangerous char aeter. The bullet struck him iu tlie shoul der, aud, striking a hone, glanced up and passed out behind without breaking any bones. While it is necessarily painful, it is not likely to inconvenience him more than a few weeks. It appears that the shot was fired by one of two men who were fighting, uml was not intended for AIcGuire. The shooter lias leen arrested and is now in jail in this city.

Judge Wade made a riean sweep of the criminal docket at Radersburg last week, and Hie jail there is now empty. The following were convicted and sentenced to tlie penitentiary: Royal Towsley, 7 years -for horsestealing; George Donnelly, 0 years for horse stealing; John H. Crane, 5 years for horsestealing. John Dolan, who attempted to kill a man named Sweet tlie Park (southwest corner of Jefferson county) near Butte last Spring, was sent up for 9 years. Henry Edmonson, who shot a man named Shelton on Beaver creek two years ago, was discharged, no prosecuting witness appearing.

It is a good play, Ami the Nellie IJoyd Company, to use a common expression, plays it for all there is in But it is the class to which it belongs that we feel disposed to criticise.
