Margery Ann Claudia Myrle Towne Claudia Myrle Towne, 68, died at St. Peter's Hospital Oct. 28, 2008, after a long, dogged battle with cancer. Claudia was born Oct. 12, 1940, in Oak Park, the second of three girls born to Claude and I Myrle (Clouser) Towne.

Her early grade school years were spent in Oak Park, but at 8 years she and her sisters moved to Vermillion, S.D., to begin a new life with her mother and her new husband, Dr. Donald Moore. Claudia completed grade school and high school in Vermillion, graduating in 1958. She entered 1 the University of South Dakota that fall to study chemistry and medical technology. After three years on the Vermillion campus, she completed her medical technology degree requirements by serving a 12-month internship in the medical laboratory at Tripler Army Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii.

It was while at Tripler she met and later married Sgt. Howard Mason of Lodge Grass in 1963. After receiving her B.S. degree (USD 1962), Claudia took employment with Queens Hospital in Honolulu. She joined a pioneering cardiac surgery team that provided medical service to the indigenous people of the Pacific Rim.

Her work with the team took her to places like Guam and Samoa. She was off to an exciting start Towne to her career. Soon, howev- Towne I waters of Montana and Idaho; they snowshoed the deep powder of Yellowstone and cross-country skied the hills of Helena. Generally, they tried to enjoy everything Montana has to offer. They built a rustic cabin on their property south of Jefferson City, and as the years went by, this allowed them a continued connection with outdoor Montana, season after season.

When Claudia's illness made the days difficult, they did their best to make the days of the ending as precious as those of the beginning. Claudia was preceded in death by her father, Claude; stepfather, Donald Moore; and older sister, Elizabeth Schmitt. She is survived by son, Brian Mason of Cathedral City, son, Greg Mason of Idaho Falls, Idaho; younger sister, Dolores Versteeg, of Johnstown, mother, Myrle Moore of Evergreen Healthcare, Clancy; and her longtime spouse-equivalent and caregiver, Dr. Don Ferlicka of Helena. Cremation has taken place and remains will be interred in the military cemetery at Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument, Crow Agency.

A private memorial gathering is being planned in remembrance of Claudia. her "afternoon beer" and shopping trips with her close companion and granddaughter, Susan, Todd who helped her with many activities of life and helped her to keep living independently. She also enjoyed regular walks around her neighborhood and talking with friends. She is survived by her children, Marvin Martin, of Slidell, Carol (Terry) Bass of Helena, and Sharon Todd of Denver. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Susan (Rich) Proul, Stacey (Chris) Petersen, Jon (Becky) Bass, Alisa (Chris) Thom, Jeff (Meg) Martin, Steven (Robin) Martin, Theresa Coski, Shelley Arwood, Penny Whiting, Krissy Gillispie and John Lee Gillispie.

She had 18 great-grandchildren and was excited about having a great-great grandchild due this spring. Cremation has taken place. At Olive's request, a funeral will not be held; however a private family gathering will be held in the future to celebrate her life. Memorials, can be sent to the charity of the donor's choosing. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home.

After two trips to Africa, Denny was asked to serve on the board of directors for the Safari Club of Montana. Denny was preceded in death by his mother, Stella Olson. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Olson; his father, Clifford Olson; brother, Gerald (Shirley) Olson; four daughters, Kim (Wayne) Spiroff, Shannon (Jim) Hadley, Jinell Olson, Jade Olson; and three grandchildren, Zachary, Tayler and Braydin. With the dissolution of her marriage through divorce, she pursued a year of post-graduate study in bio-medical science at MSU-Bozeman. She was invited to apply for employment with the state Department of Health in Helena as a laboratory surveyor for Medicare compliance. She was selected and the next 20 years were spent traveling to every medical facility in communities, large and small, across Montana that were Medicare-approved to provide laboratory service.

Claudia, through capable and conscientious performance, won the respect and admiration of nearly every colleague and co-worker with whom she had professional interaction. Claudia retired from state employment in January 2004. When she returned to Helena from MSU-Bozeman, she became acquainted with Dr. Don Ferlicka (D.V.M) and the two soon became inseparable. This relationship was to last 24 years and more.

Together they traveled from Nova Scotia to Costa Rica, British Columbia to Guatemala; they canoed the quiet waters and rafted the white- Olive Lorraine Todd Olive Lorraine "Nanny" Todd, 87, a very-muchloved mother and grandmother passed away on Oct. 27, 2008, in Helena, with her family at her side. Olive was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Belgrade, to Olive and William McGuire. The fifth child of the couple, Olive used to joke that they didn't have a name for her until it was time for her to start school.

She grew up in Springhill, just outside of Belgrade. After graduating from Belgrade High School, she married Adrian John Martin, and together they raised two children, Marvin and Carol in Three Forks. A. J. passed away in 1970.

In 1973, Olive married Lee Todd and together they made a home in Havre. After several years of snowbirding, they retired to Casa Grande, in the mid-1990s. Lee preceded 1 her in death in 2004, and she moved back to Helena to be closer to her family shortly after. Olive loved life and found humor in lots of places. She loved doing crossword puzzles and other activities that helped keep her mind active and body moving.

In her stories she talked about how she loved traveling when she was younger and especially having good times with good friends. Since returning to Helena, she enjoyed Dennis (Denny) Russell Olson BILLINGS Dennis (Denny) Russell Olson, 61, of Billings passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 25, 2008, at his home after a brief battle with cancer. Denny was born in Livingston, Jan. 10, 1947, to Cliff and Stella Olson.

Denny grew up at the family ranch in Wilsall and graduated from Wilsall High School in 1967, where he excelled in athletics. Denny enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968-69. Upon his discharge, Denny moved to Helena, where he began his 30-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.

Denny had a great love of the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. This pas- for 15 years. "All these people wanting to vote pretty cool." The six years in "old Hawaii" were among Claudia's fondest memories. However, the Army needed Sgt.

Mason in Europe, and so the family would call Frankfurt, Germany, home for the next three years. The Masons were able to visit much of Western and Northern Europe and Scandanavia. The Army then said San Antonio, Texas, (Fort Sam Houston) would be home for Claudia and family. It was here in 1971 that Claudia and her boys suffered the shock of Howard's unexpected death. Claudia and the boys brought Howard back to Montana for burial and for a short time lived with relatives in Lodge Grass.

Through a network of old college friends, Claudia found employment in the laboratory at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, and so Claudia returned to her professional career.
