2C Saturday, September 15, 2007 AreaDeaths Archie J. Holms Archie J. Holms, 94, passed away at home in Spokane, on Sept. 8, 2007. surrounded by family.

He was born May 6, 1913, in Medicine I Lake. Archie and Phyllis Madsen Holms were married more than 60) vears until her death in August 2004. His life of 94 years will leave a great void 111 the lives of all those who loved him. Holms His full and exciting life included working on the Fort Peck Dam during the Depression, where he contracted tuberculosis and was hospitalized in Galen for four years. Upon discharge, he moved to Williston, N.D., and opened Holms Office Machines.

He later moved his family to Wibaux in the late 1940s, where he owned and operated The Shamrock, a supper club that is now on the historic register for the state of Montana. In the '50s, he moved to Western Montana for a sabbatical and lived in Big Fork. From there, he moved back to the Williston basin and was involved in the oil and gas business. In the early 1960s, he purchased a ranch and moved south of Missoula. In Missoula, he opened Holms Equipment, a heavy equipment company which he operated until retiring in the 1980s, to Watford City, N.D., to care for his mother-inlaw, Bessie Madson.

In 1991, Archie and Phyllis returned to Helena, where they enjoyed fishing and recreation with family and friends. Archie's hobbies included raising registered hunting dogs, registered quarter horses, fishing, hunting, and professional poker playing. Archie and Phyllis moved to Cheney, in 2004, to live with their daughter and son-inlaw, Rocky and Evenette Greenfield. Archie is survived by his children, Allan and Robyn Holms, Val and Mari Holms and Evenette and Rocky Greenfield. His daughter, Marie Kent passed away in the summer of 2005.

He left behind 10 grandchildren, Allison Pinder, Tyler Holms, Jim Holms, Scott Holms, Theresa Yarbrough, Trent Holms, Tom Greenfield, Debbie Neu, Jason Kent, Justin Kent, and 13 greatgrandchildren. A funeral service for Archie Holms will be on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at 3 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Spokane.
